Le Potazzine Brunello di Montalcino 2010
Le Potazzine is the winery of the Gorelli family and was formerly known as Due Portine. Consistently well rated and respected, The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is gorgeous. The warmth of the vintage has filled out the wine’s frame nicely, yet this remains a firm, classically built wine with considerable appeal. It is another striking wine from Le Potazzine. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027.
"Le Potazzine" is a term of endearment in the local dialect meaning "chickadee" referring to the small very lively birds in the area with colored plumage. This nickname was given by Gigliola’s mother to her two granddaughters, Viola and Sofia. The complete vineyard area is registered for the production of Brunello, and only Sangiovese is grown. The vineyard sits at high altitude with air ventilation that flows through the vineyard that cools and keeps the vines dry so that there is little disease contamination; consequently sustainable agricultural practices are pursued. The vineyards are worked entirely by hand and the harvest is manual. Giuseppe believes in traditional and natural vinification: fermentation and maceration with the skins is long (approximately 1 month) with indigenous yeasts and without temperature control. The wines rest in traditional Slavonian oak casks (Botti).
