Overview

Country/State: Italy
Region: Tuscany
Varietal: Sangiovese

A blend of 90 percent Sangiovese with the rest composed of Colorino and Canaiolo, the Montevertine Rosso derives mostly from a single six-acre south-southwest facing vineyard planted in 1982. There’s no question that 2011 was a warm vintage, but the altitudes of Montevertine’s vineyards and the careful attention of its owner-winemaker, Martino Manetti, keep the wines balanced and fresh. Montevertine has shown its expertise vintage after vintage, and the ’11 Rosso offers juicy berries, fresh-cut herbs, a thrum of earth and espresso, and the kind of precise balance that has made this estate a collector staple
